history

The 18th century bell tower in front of the new church

In the Middle Ages there was a St. Vitus Church in Steinebrunn, and in 1475 a pastor Bernhard von Steinebrunn is mentioned. In the course of the Reformation, the landlord Hans von Fünfkirchen promoted Protestantism. During a visitation in 1544 it was mentioned that there had been no pastor in Steinebrunn for eleven years, and in 1558 that the vicarage in Steinebrunn had burned down and the Fünfkirchen had set up a press house in it. Around 1660 the building was described as a once handsome church, of which only the choir and the baptismal font made of carved stone remain. Today there are no more traces of the church. In the 18th century a bell tower with a small chapel was built. The current branch church was built from 1954 and consecrated in 1958.

Exterior description

The south tower with a hooded roof from the end of the 18th century has been preserved. The church building was designed in 1954 by architect Alexis Franken. At the entrance to the church there is a stone figure of Anna teaching Maria to read on a coat of arms pedestal from the middle of the 18th century.

Inside description

The interior is a simple, rectangular room with a music gallery above the entrance. The church was built immediately before the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council and has contemporary furnishings, which, however, are oriented towards the needs of the Tridentic rite with a high altar and communion grid.

Furnishing

In 1962 Heinrich Tahedl designed an altar mosaic above the high altar with a representation of Saint Anne herself , based on early Christian representations. The stations of the cross are also by Heinrich Tahedl. The church has six windows on the long sides and a round window above the entrance. At the height of the high altar there are two glass paintings from the Tyrolean glass painting and mosaic institute that were donated by Count Fünfkirchen for the parish church of Drasenhofen around 1900 and expanded there in the late 1920s. The remaining windows with depictions of Saints Veit , Barbara , Leonhard and Theresa as well as an abstract depiction of the fourth day of creation were made according to designs by Maria Plachky (1920–1982), the wife of Gottfried Kumpf . The window of St. Barbara was a foundation of the politician and resistance fighter Josef Dengler, who was born in Steinebrunn .
