Tenneck branch church

The Tenneck branch church in the village of Tenneck in the municipality of Werfen is a Roman Catholic branch church of the Werfen parish in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the state of Salzburg . It is consecrated to St. Barbara and is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Tenneck, which is characterized by the iron industry, has long been located northwest of Werfen. In 1770, the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg Sigismund von Schrattenbach had a blast furnace and a hammer mill built. This stood at the current location of the Sulzau-Werfen ironworks. The blast furnace operation was discontinued in 1960, but from 1965 onwards, the work of today's ironworks was able to secure the local industry. Since many miners and blast furnace workers lived in this region, the service was initially held in the ironworks' retinue, which soon became too small. With the support of Rolf Weinberger, who made the property available, and with donations from the ironworkers, a church was built at the entrance to the Blühnbach valley between 1953 and 1954. The church was planned free of charge by the Salzburg architect Alfred Diener . The church was consecrated on October 24, 1954 by Archbishop Andreas Rohracher of St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners, and placed under the parish of Werfen.

Church building

The church is a simple rectangular building with a rounded choir. The roof is clapboard and there is an onion helmet on the roof turret .

Furnishing

Above the tabernacle is a baroque , life-size crucifix from the 18th century. This comes from the Capuchin monastery in Werfen . A baroque statue of St. Barbara on a console is mounted above the brick pulpit . Above the right side altar is a baroque figure of St. Mary with child in front of a halo.

The electronic organ comes from Erwin Pienert , the bell in the roof turret from the Oberascher bell foundry in Salzburg. The iron grating from 2002 was created by the artist Rudolf Rehrl .
