Filippo Beroaldo the Younger
Filippo Beroaldo the Younger , Latinized Philippus Beroaldus (Junior) (born October 1, 1472 in Bologna , † August 30, 1518 in Rome ) was the nephew of Filippo Beroaldo the Elder and an Italian philologist , poet and librarian .
Live and act
In 1498 Beroaldo received a teaching post in Bologna, after which he went to Rome . There he was the secretary of Cardinal Giovanni de 'Medici, who became Pope in 1513 as Leo X. In 1514 Beroaldo became Prefect of the Roman Academy, and in 1516 the Pope appointed him Prefect of the Vatican Library .
In 1515 Beroaldo had the codex of the allegedly lost first books of the Annales of Tacitus printed, which the cardinal had acquired in 1508. When Hanno , the elephant of Leo X. died in 1516, Beroaldo wrote his epitaph . His correspondence has been passed down, among others with Aldus Manutius and Johannes Reuchlin . Odes and epigrams by him appeared in Rome in 1550.
