Finn Lied (born April 12, 1916 in Fana , Bergen , Fylke Hordaland ; † October 10, 2014 ) was a Norwegian economic manager and politician of the Labor Party , who was Industry Minister in the first government of Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli between 1971 and 1972 . Lied, son of the pharmacist Sigvald Lied and the pharmacist Astri Schjøtt, began studying engineering in 1936 after attending school , which he interrupted during the Second World War to join the armed forces (Forsvaret) . After an officer training in the United Kingdom from 1942 to 1943, he served as a captain in the army between 1944 and 1945 .

After the war, Lied continued his studies at the Norwegian Technical University NTH (Norges Tekniske Høgskole) , which he graduated as an engineer in 1946. He was then a research fellow between 1946 and 1951 at the Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt (FFI), an institution for military research subordinate to the Ministry of Defense.
