Fire (song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fire is a song by the English big beat band The Prodigy . It was released on September 7, 1992 together with Jericho as their fourth single .

The single was labeled "strangely limited edition" as the records were only sold for two weeks to promote sales of the debut album The Prodigy Experience , which was released a few months later. When the single was re-released, however, it still had the same subtitle.

A video was produced under the direction of Russel Simmons , but it was rated too bad by the band and therefore not published. However, it appeared on a compilation by XL Recordings called The Video Chapter . Due to its rarity, the video was very popular with fans.

The “Sunrise Version” of Fire , which is also included on The Prodigy Experience , differs from the “Single Edit” by the use of distorted piano sounds, which are typical for the euphoric breakbeat pieces of the early 1990s.

The eponymous sample on Fire ("I am the god of hell fire!") Comes from the world hit of the same name by British rock singer Arthur Brown (first released on the album The Crazy World of Arthur Brown in 1968). It cost Prodigy label XL Recordings £ 4,000 when it was first released. The high license costs were probably also the reason that this single is not included on the compilation Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 .

Another characteristic sample on Fire comes from the 1980 song Hard Times by Pablo Gad ("When I was youth I used to burn cali weed in a Rizla" - "When I was young, I smoked marijuana in a Rizla", a well-known one Brand of cigarette paper). The original is a quiet roots reggae piece; Liam Howlett sped it up but kept the offbeat rhythm, so that the corresponding passage in Fire has a Ska-like character.

The cry “How ya feeling? In the party! How ya feeling? Are you ready? ”In the single version is taken from a live recording of the song African Children by the British reggae band Aswad .
