First Aid Kit is a Swedish indie pop - duo consisting of sisters Johanna (* 31 October 1990 ) and Clare (* 8. January 1993 ) Soderberg, from Enskede , a suburb of Stockholm , originate.
history
In April 2007, the sisters began uploading their homemade songs to the social networking website MySpace . They also sent a demo of their song Tangerine to a Swedish radio station. With the song, the duo landed a summer hit.
First Aid Kit released their debut EP Drunken Trees on April 9, 2008 on The Knife label Rabid Records . A re-release of the sound carrier by Wichita Recordings in February 2009 also contained the track Tiger Mountain Peasant Song , a cover by the band Fleet Foxes , with which First Aid Kit became known on YouTube in 2008 .
The debut LP The Big Black & the Blue was released on January 25, 2010. The first single was Hard Believer (with B-side Waltz for Richard ) on October 5, 2009.
In August 2011 First Aid Kit made their first appearance at the Polar Music Prize award in Stockholm. They played dancing barefoot for winner Patti Smith . Their emotional reaction to this ensured that the official video of the TV broadcast generated a great response and further increased the band's profile.
In January 2012 their second album The Lion's Roar was released , which they recorded with various musicians under the direction of Mike Mogis ( Bright Eyes ) in Omaha , Nebraska. They received vocal support from Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst on the track King of the World . Her first and title-giving single, The Lion's Roar , was inspired by Townes Van Zandt . The second single Emmylou pays homage to her role models Emmylou Harris , Gram Parsons , June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash , who are mentioned in the chorus. The video was shot in Joshua Tree National Park on the rock formation "Cap Rock", alluding to the grotesque circumstances of the death of the singer Gram Parsons, who died in 1973. Emmylou was voted one of the top 10 songs of 2012 by Rolling Stone magazine .
In August 2012, First Aid Kit performed for the second time at the Polar Music Prize. They played America by Simon & Garfunkel for the award winner Paul Simon . A studio version of it was released on an EP of the same name in 2015.
In 2014, First Aid Kit contributed vocals on a total of six tracks from Conor Oberst's solo album Upside Down Mountain , after they had accompanied the Bright Eyes singer on his European tour in 2013.
Her third studio album, Stay Gold , was released on Columbia Records on June 10, 2014 and, like its predecessor, was produced by Mike Mogis. Previously, the single My Silver Lining was released on March 31, and Cedar Lane on May 6 . Stay Gold was awarded the Swedish Grammis for Album of the Year 2014 .
At the end of October, a cover version of REM's Walk Unafraid appeared on the soundtrack of the film The Big Trip - Wild . In Germany, the song My Silver Lining was used in an advertisement for the Renault Kadjar in 2015 . On June 9, 2015, First Aid Kit played Emmylou and Red Dirt Girl at the Polar Music Prize for winner Emmylou Harris.
First Aid Kit started touring in the summer of 2017. From the upcoming album they played the songs Fireworks and It's a Shame . In October 2017, the release of their new album Ruins for January 19, 2018 was announced via the website and social networks .
In September 2017, the band's internet addresses were changed to firstaidkitband for the official site, Instagram and Facebook and thus also for their Twitter account.
