In his youth, Dunkley initially focused on the high jump and later on the triple jump . After graduating from Jamaica College in Kingston, he began studying marketing at Louisiana State University in 2013 and competed in the two jumping disciplines for LSU Tigers . In the 2014 season he was also used successfully as a runner in the 4 x 400 meter relay , so that he switched completely to the sprint in the following year. At the Universiade in Gwangju , he competed in the 400-meter run, but was eliminated in the preliminary run.
In 2016, Dunkley increased his indoor best performance over 400 meters to 46.04 seconds and was then nominated for the World Indoor Championships in Portland . There he reached the semi-finals. In addition, he led the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay in the final as the final runner in fourth place. He celebrated his most significant success to date at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In the 4 x 400 meter relay, he won the silver medal behind the US team and in front of the Bahamas team, along with Peter Matthews , Nathon Allen and Javon Francis . Dunkley also started in the 400-meter run, but did not get beyond the heats.
