Peter Matthews (born November 13, 1989 in Manchester Parish ) is a Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Peter Matthews gained his first international experience at the Summer Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen , where he won the silver medal behind the Hungarian Marcell Deák Nagy in 45.62 seconds . In addition, he was disqualified with the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay in the preliminary run. In 2015 he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he reached the semi-finals in the 400-meter competition and came fourth in the 4-by-400-meter relay competition with the Jamaican team. In 2016 he took part with the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and won the silver medal behind the United States in 2: 58.16 minutes in the final . At the IAAF World Relays 2017 he came in third place with the relay and also took part in the World Championships in London , where the Jamaican team surprisingly dropped out in the run -up.

In April 2018 he won the bronze medal in 3: 01.97 min with the Jamaican relay at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia .
