from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Florian Abel (*? In Cologne , † May 14, 1565 probably in Prague ) was a German painter and draftsman of the Renaissance .

Life

Florian Abel, who came from the Abel family of artists in Cologne , lived in Prague and probably died there too. On April 28, 1561 received he and his brothers Bernhard Abel and Arnold Abel , both masons and sculptors , in Vienna the common contract for design of the long unfinished tomb of Emperor Maximilian I in the Hofkirche at Innsbruck by twenty-four reliefs of marble . His preliminary drawings of the overall design, which he sent to Innsbruck in 1561, adhered to the German Renaissance painting of his time. These drawings are no longer preserved.

After the death of his brothers in 1563 and 1564, the further execution of the relief work was entrusted to the sculptor Alexander Colin , who took over all of Florian Abel's models.
