Florian Gottschick (born August 20, 1981 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

life and work

Before and during his studies in film directing at the University of Film and Television “Konrad Wolf” (HFF), Gottschick worked as a creative producer for film and television productions and organized German film series in Kosovo and Albania together with the Goethe Institute and the Foreign Office .

The documentary portraits Licht refracts ( Breaking Light ) about a hospice guest and Mr. Kio ( Mr. Kio ) about the transvestite Madame Kio were created during his studies . His bachelor movie Twins ( Twins ) on identical, male twins who lead an incestuous, egomaniacal relationship has been shown at numerous festivals and Edition Salzgeber released on DVD. For his first feature film artist , which premiered at the Max Ophüls Prize film festival , he was nominated for the DEFA Young Talent Award. Artists was the graduate film of the acting class at the HFF in 2010.

His thesis he wrote about the anti-chronological narration in postmodern film, which also his diploma film Night Light ( Bright Night ) was affected. The film was u. a. nominated for the Grimme Prize 2016, Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award for the best screenplay and the New German Cinema Award for best director and best screenplay. a. with awards such as “best narrative feature” at the film festival in Austin / Texas and “best director” at the Evolution film festival in Palma. The film was shown at 50 international film festivals and competitions and was shown on ARD in 2015 and 2016. The film was released in German cinemas on June 4, 2015.

Gottschick develops scripts for TV and cinema, some of which he directs, works as a script editor and consultant and as a guest lecturer for script / dramaturgy, acting and theater sports / improvisation at various institutions and universities (including the Babelsberg Film University). He trains the Chechov and Meisner acting method, u. a. with Frank Betzelt.

Gottschick is a member of the Federal Association of Directing .

He lives in Berlin-Friedrichshain and Spain.
