Florian Hartmann (politician)

Florian Hartmann (born November 2, 1986 in Dachau ) is a German local politician of the SPD and has been Lord Mayor of the major district town of Dachau since 2014 .

Life

After graduating from the Dachau Josef-Effner-Gymnasium in 2006, he studied mechanical engineering with a degree in environmental technology at the Munich University of Applied Sciences and worked briefly as a project engineer in energy and environmental technology.

Hartmann began his political career in 2004 in the Dachau Youth Council, of which he was spokesman. In 2008 he was elected to the Dachau City Council for the SPD. From 2012 to 2014 he was deputy group chairman. In 2014 he stood as a candidate of the SPD in the mayoral election against the incumbent mayor Peter Bürgel ( CSU ). In the first ballot he received almost 27 percent of the vote, a good 20 percentage points behind Bürgel. Since he missed an absolute majority, the decision was made in a runoff election. Hartmann was elected as the new Lord Mayor of Dachau with 53.7 percent of the vote. At the age of 27, Hartmann became the youngest Lord Mayor in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany to date. In 2020 he was confirmed in office with over 76 percent of the votes in the local elections .
