Georg Seufert (politician, 1885)

Georg Seufert (born April 21, 1885 ; † May 23, 1957 in Bamberg ) was a German lawyer and local politician.

Life

The lawyer from Lindenberg im Allgäu was appointed on January 10, 1925 as the successor to Franz Xaver Böck sen. ( SPD ) was elected First Mayor of Dachau and was the first full-time mayor of the place. He was a member of the Bavarian People's Party until 1933 and of the NSDAP from 1933 to 1945 .

After taking office in Dachau, Seuffert wrote two memoranda “Die Dachauer Not”, thereby pointing the Bavarian state government to the difficult economic situation of the place after the closure of the local powder factory and asked for state help. According to the memorandum, one third of the budget of the 7,100-inhabitant market town was used for social welfare. During his tenure, the Ludwig-Thoma-Schule, the trade school and the Dachau family pool were established. He also had the forest cemetery prepared and improvements made to the local infrastructure. In 1934, during his time in office, the Dachau market was elevated to the status of a city .

After the National Socialists came to power, Seufert protested together with his deputy Böck against the hoisting of the swastika flag on the town hall. A little later, however, he himself converted from the Bavarian People's Party to the NSDAP. In 1934 he announced his resignation from the office of mayor of Dachau for health reasons. His successor was Lambert Friedrichs , the NSDAP district leader of Dachau.

Seufert was mayor of Traunstein from 1935 to 1945 .
