Floris Cohen

Hendrik Floris Cohen (born July 1, 1946 in Haarlem , Netherlands ) is a Dutch historian of science who is particularly concerned with the history of natural science .

Life

From 1970 Cohen studied history at the University of Leiden in the field of social economics and as a minor in history of natural science. In 1974 he received his doctorate with the thesis Om het verneuwing van het socialisme. De politieke oriëntatie van de Nederlandse sociaal-democratie 1919 - 1930 (On the renewal of socialism . From 1975 to 1982 Cohen was employed as a research assistant (curator) at the Museum Boerhaave in Leiden . From 1982 to 2001 he was a professor for the history of natural science at the University of Twente .

From 1984 to 1991, Cohen's articles on science and universities appeared regularly in the Dutch daily Trouw . The University of Utrecht appointed him Professor of Comparative History of Natural Science.

Floris Cohen is the older brother of Job Cohen, who was in office until 2010, and the son of the historian Dolf Cohen .
