The Aérodrome de Alencon Valframbert is an airport of general aviation . It lies in the region of Normandy in the department of Orne in the field of Cerisé between Alençon and Valframbert about 60 kilometers north of Le Mans . The airfield was used as a military airfield during the Second World War .
history
During the Second World War, the airfield was used by the German Wehrmacht during the occupation of France . One user in June / July 1940 was the Bf 110C / D of the V. (destroyer) group of the Lehrgeschwader 1 (V. (Z) / LG1) and between mid-April and August 1944 Fw 190 from part of the II. Group were located here of Jagdgeschwader 2 (II./JG 2).
Lonrai Field Airfield / Lonray Airfield
In the run-up to the Allied invasion of Normandy, the German troops built a field airfield a few kilometers northwest of Alençon near Lonrei . The airfield was used from mid-June to early August 1944 by the I. Group of Jagdgeschwader 1 with their Fw 190A (I./JG 1), with the majority of the group taking over new Fw 190A in Cologne-Ostheim in the second half of July and only a small detachment in Semallé (see below) remained. In the last week of June, the 1st season of JG 11 was added.
After the area was liberated by the Allies, American troops used Airfield A.45 , which is its Allied code designation. It was used by the United States Army Air Forces from early September to late November 1944 . The P-38 of the 370th Fighter Group lay here for a short time and then the area was used for two months by the 439th Troop Carrier Group equipped with C-47 .
Semallé field airfield
The air force built another airfield a few kilometers north, west-northwest of Semallé at the same time. The only unit lying here was a small detachment of I./JG 1 with their Fw 190A in the second half of July 1944.
Todays use
The airfield is used, among other things, by the local air sports club and a group of friends of old aircraft.
