Fordyce is a Scottish town in the Aberdeenshire Council Area . It is located in the traditional county of Banffshire about twelve kilometers west of Banff near the south bank of the Moray Firth .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1272. In 1592 the Tower House Fordyce Castle , which is now in the center of the village, was built. The property north of Fordyce belonged to the possessions of the Ogilvy clan in the 16th century , more precisely the Ogilvys of Seafield . Probably let James Abercrombie around 1770 there tonight's mansion Glassaugh House building. George Smith founded the Fordyce Academy . The school, which has since been closed, enjoyed a high reputation nationwide. Today the village is protected as a Conservation Area and a popular tourist destination.
In the second half of the 19th century there were still more than 4,000 people in Fordyce. In 1961 there were still 197 inhabitants. Ten years later the number had dropped to 145.

Fordyce is connected to the road network via a secondary road. One kilometer north of the runs Fraserburgh to Fochabers leading A98 . The A95 (Banff– Aviemore ) can also be reached within a few kilometers to the southeast .
