Research Association for Drive Technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forschungsvereinigung Antriebstechnik eV (FVA) is an association of companies founded in 1968 for pre-competitive research in the field of drive technology .

history

In the context of the technical work of the VDMA Drive Technology Association , scientific issues were given increasing importance in the 1960s. The companies recognized the need to tackle research topics together and founded the association in 1968 with the aim of promoting scientific research in the field of drive technology and creating all the necessary prerequisites in the relevant areas. The results of the joint research simplify the discussion between manufacturer and user. For example, the FVA / are FZG test method pitting test (FVA54) and pitting internationally known and used in the US by the Association of the gear manufacturer AGMA recommended its members to apply. Oil companies refer to these tests in data sheets for their industrial lubricants.

After Michael Paul ( ZF Friedrichshafen , until 2014) and Christian Schliephack ( Reintjes ), Arbogast Grunau ( Schaeffler ) is now Chairman of the Board of Management.

Activity and organization

The subject areas of the FVA are mechanical and electrical or mechatronic drive technology, both for stationary industrial systems and for vehicles, mobile machines and aircraft. The aim of joint research is to improve the technical know-how of companies and the quality of their products, and to reduce production costs. Information events, seminars and conferences of the research association offer companies the opportunity to apply the latest research results and to train their employees accordingly.

Around 2,000 industry experts along the value chain are represented in the FVA, who support the research of over 300 scientific employees and professors from over 50 institutes in working groups. The FVA is a member of the working group of industrial research associations "Otto von Guericke" and is entitled to apply for joint industrial research .

Member firms

The FVA has around 200 member companies (as of 2020). Only companies that manufacture products for drive technology and have at least one production site in Germany can become members. Companies without a production site in Germany can become extraordinary members.

The member companies (as of 2020) include the car manufacturers Audi , BMW , Daimler , Opel , Porsche and Volkswagen as well as the first tier suppliers Bosch , Magna , ZF Friedrichshafen , Valeo Siemens and Mahle .

Sponsorship award

The Hans Winter Prize , named after Hans Winter (engineer) , has been awarded annually since 2000 at the FVA information conference. It rewards outstanding scientific achievements by young professionals in the context of FVA research projects.
