Neighboring towns are Lüdorf , Grünebirke , Dörpmühle , Goldenbergshammer , Engelsburg , Heydt , Tefental , Ober- and Niederlangenbach .

history

Forsten was first mentioned in 1547 as Fyrsten . The forest to which the name refers was a ducal forest at that time . The Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 shows the farm as a forest . In the early modern era, the Bergische Eisenstrasse , a regionally important transport route for pig iron from the Siegen area , ran through the town . The old road is marked on the topographia as Ÿſer-Stras .

In the 18th century the place belonged to the Bergisches Amt Bornefeld-Hückeswagen . In 1815/16 there were 27 people living in the village. In 1832 Forsten belonged to the Lüdorfer Honschaft , which was part of the Hückeswagen external citizenship within the Hückeswagen mayor . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had seven residential buildings and eight agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 41 residents lived in the place, two of them Catholic and 39 Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland in 1885 nine houses with 75 inhabitants are given. At that time the place belonged to the rural community Neuhückeswagen within the Lennep district . In 1895 the place had six houses with 48 inhabitants, in 1905 seven houses and 55 inhabitants.

In the course of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipal area reform (§21 Düsseldorf Law ), the eastern area around Bergisch Born with the Forsten farm was separated from the city of Hückeswagen on January 1, 1975 and incorporated into the city of Remscheid.
