biography

François I. de Luxembourg is the son of Thibaut de Luxembourg, Comte de Brienne ( House Luxemburg-Ligny ), and Philippote de Melun, daughter of Jean IV. De Melun , Burgrave of Ghent ( House Melun ). From 1491 to 1493 he was governor and grand seneschal of Provence.

Due to his marriage to Luise of Savoy (* 1467 - May 1, 1530), François received fiefs in the Genevois , Waadtland and Chablais : the income from the road tolls of Nyon , the lordship of Belmont ( Yverdon ), the castles of Ternier (on the road from Geneva to Chambéry ), and from 1497 the castles of La Tour-de-Peilz , Vevey , Monthey and Évian . In 1501, his request to acquire Faverges Castle and the rights to the associated lordship from Duke Philibert II of Savoy was rejected by the ducal court of auditors. The transaction then happened five years later with Duke Charles III. of Savoy . In 1514 the rule passed to Philip of Savoy-Nemours .
