Francesca Gregorini (* 7. August 1968 in Rome as Countess Francesca McKnight Donatella Romana Gregorini di Savignano di Romagna ) is an Italian - American film director , screenwriter and film producer . In addition, she also worked as a singer and songwriter .

life and career

Francesca Gregorini was born in Rome in 1968 as the daughter of actress Barbara Bach and Augusto Gregorini. She is the older sister of Gianni Gregorini, who presides over her US production company, Pisces Rising Productions . Thanks to her excellent language skills - she speaks fluent Italian and English - Gregorini attended Brown University in the United States, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the USA, located in Providence , the capital of the US state Rhode Island . There she studied theater studies and semiotics.

Gregorini began her career in the early 2000s, first as a singer and songwriter; she contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the film See Jane Run 2001, where she also played a small guest role. She also worked as a singer and musician (guitar and bass). In 2003 she released the album Sequel before moving into the film business and starting to work as a screenwriter. She wrote the pilot episode of Motel Novella, which she developed with Joe and Anthony Russo for HBO. In 2009, Francesca Gregorini directed, screenwriter and producer with the drama The Girls from Tanner Hall , starring Rooney Mara , Georgia King and Brie Larson, her first own feature film. In 2009 the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival .

In 2013 Gregorini directed the thriller The Truth About Emanuel with the cast of Kaya Scodelario , Jessica Biel and Alfred Molina . At the Sundance Film Festival she was honored for this with a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize in the Dramatic category. The film was also nominated in the 2013 LA Femme Film Festival in the Best Feature Director category.

Francesca Gregorini is the stepdaughter of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and the niece of Marjorie Bach and Joe Walsh . She is also the stepsister of the two drummers Jason Starkey and Zak Starkey and the make-up artist Lee Starkey .

In 2004, her three-year love affair with actress Portia de Rossi ended .

In January 2020, she sued M. Night Shyamalan for alleged plagiarism .
