Portia de Rossi
Portia de Rossi (born Amanda Lee Rogers on January 31, 1973 in Horsham , Victoria ; real life today Portia Lee James DeGeneres) is an Australian actress who has also had US citizenship since 2011 . Her best-known role is that of Nelle Porter in Ally McBeal .
Life
She is the second child of Barry and Margaret Rogers (their father died of a heart attack in 1982 ) and grew up with a brother in Geelong near Melbourne . At the age of twelve she already began to model professionally. According to her own statement, her eating disorders began along with this activity . She took pills to lose weight. At the age of 15 she changed her name to Portia de Rossi. After high school , she took a law degree at Melbourne University and worked intermittently as a model and in commercials . In 1993 she broke off her studies.
A producer became aware of de Rossi and gave her a role in the British- Australian film Seduction of the Sirens (1994). In 1998 she took on the role of Nelle Porter in the American television series Ally McBeal , which she made known to a large audience. From 2003 to 2006 she played the role of Lindsay in the Fox - comedy series Arrested Development . In May 2013, the series returned with the video-on-demand provider Netflix for 15 new episodes.
When she was in the public eye through her role in Ally McBeal , her anorexia ("anorexia") intensified . She processed her experiences in her book Unbearable Lightness , which was published in 2010.
In 1996 de Rossi married the documentary filmmaker Mel Metcalfe; the marriage was divorced in 1999. From 2000 to 2004 de Rossi dated the singer Francesca Gregorini , Ringo Starr's stepdaughter . In 2004 she fell in love with Ellen DeGeneres, who was still in a relationship at the time . De Rossi and DeGeneres separated from their partners and have lived together in Los Angeles ever since . DeGeneres announced in her talk show on May 16, 2008 that she wanted to marry de Rossi. De Rossi was also present in the studio. The day before, the California ban on same-sex marriages had been overturned by the court. On August 16, 2008, the wedding took place in DeGeneres' house in Beverly Hills ; in August 2010 she took her wife's family name and her real name has been Portia Lee James DeGeneres since then. She has been a US citizen since September 2011.
