Francesco Vezzoli

Francesco Vezzoli (* 1971 in Brescia ) is an Italian conceptual artist and filmmaker (“multimedia pop art artist ”) who works from Milan .

Life

From 1992 to 1995 he studied at London's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design .

In his first work from 1994 to 1996 he reproduced works by Mark Rothko and Josef Albers as embroidery . He also used this technique later, and embroidered tears on pictures of women became one of his trademarks.

In 2000 he made the short film The Kiss (Let's play Dynasty) , in which Helmut Berger appeared. In 2005 he shot the short film Trailer for a Remake of Gore Vidal's Caligula, produced by Quentin Tarantino for the Venice Biennale, with actors such as Courtney Love , Helen Mirren , Milla Jovovich and Benicio del Toro .

At the next Biennale in 2007, his video Democrazy with Sharon Stone and the philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy was shown in the Italian Pavilion . In the same year he was responsible for Edition 46 of the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Since the video for Speechless 2009 he has been working with Lady Gaga again and again . In that year he also created a pseudo commercial for the alleged perfume "Greed", filmed by Roman Polański with Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams . He donated the spot to MOCA .

In 2013 he was in the ZDF program Durch die Nacht mit… , in which two artists meet, can be seen with Rufus Wainwright in Rome. They first visit the Vezzoli retrospective in the MAXXI Museum , and later the Borghese Gallery . In the same year his project to dismantle a church in Italy and to rebuild it in New York at MoMA PS1 failed because she was not allowed to leave the country.
