Francis Lagan

Francis Lagan (born October 31, 1934 in Lisnamuck, Maghera , Northern Ireland , † June 9, 2020 in Londonderry , Northern Ireland) was an Irish clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Derry .

Life

Francis Lagan received after his theological training on 19 June 1960 in the church of St Patrick's College in Maynooth the priesthood for the Diocese of Derry. He taught at St Columb's College in Derry (1961–1963) and at Carndonagh College (1963–1973) and Carndonagh Community School (1973–1977) in County Donegal . He was pastor in Strabane (1977–1982) and administrator of the Marian parish in Derry (1982–1988).

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Derry and titular bishop of Sidnacestre on February 4, 1988 . The Archbishop of Armagh , Tomás Séamus Cardinal Ó Fiaich , donated him episcopal ordination on March 20 of the same year ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Gaetano Alibrandi , Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland , and Edward Kevin Daly , Bishop of Derry.

On May 6, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. the age-related resignation of Francis Lagan. He died at the age of 85.
