Francis Mahon Hayes

Francis Mahon Hayes (born March 2, 1930 in Cork - † June 27, 2011 ) was an Irish diplomat .

Life

Francis Mahon Hayes was born in Cork in March 1930 to Francis Mahon Hayes and Aileen Hayes (nee Walsh). He graduated from the National University of Ireland and earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree .

Hayes was now admitted to the King's Inns and served as an Assistant Legal Advisor in the Justice Department from 1957 to 1965 . From 1965 he was Legal Advisor in the Foreign Ministry and also held other posts. From 1977 to 1981 he was the Irish ambassador to Denmark , Norway and Iceland . He then became Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in Geneva from 1981 to 1987 . He held the post of Permanent Representative Ireland to the United Nations in New York City from 1989 to 1995.

Hayes had been married since 1958. The marriage had four children, a son and three daughters.
