Francis Williams , also Franc Williams (born September 20, 1910 in McConnell's Mill . Pennsylvania , † October 2, 1983 in Houston , Texas ) was an American jazz trumpeter of the swing era .

Williams first appeared in the 1930s with Frank Terry's Chicago Nightingales . He moved to New York City in 1940 and worked with Fats Waller , Claude Hopkins , Edgar Hayes , Ella Fitzgerald , Sabby Lewis and Machito for the first half of the decade . From 1945 to 1949, and again in 1951, he was a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra . In the following two decades, Williams played primarily in Latin jazz ensembles , in New York theater bands on Broadway and the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band . From 1959 to 1962 he worked with Earl Coleman and also led his own quartet. In the 1970s he toured with Clyde Bernhardt ; in later years he still worked with Panama Francis . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in 114 recording sessions between 1946 and 1983.
