Francisco Esteban Lacal

Francisco Esteban Lacal OMI (born February 8, 1888 in Soria , † November 28, 1936 in Paracuellos de Jarama ) was a Spanish Oblate of the Immaculate Virgin Mary .

Life

He had made his first vows in the community of the Oblates on July 16, 1906 and, after completing his studies, received his ordination on June 29, 1912 . After a few years as a professor and assistant to the novice master , he was appointed provincial in 1932 . He lived in the House of the Oblates in Diego de León, where he accepted as Provincial those of his confreres who had been arrested in the monastery in Pozuelo on July 22, 1936 during the Spanish Civil War and released on July 25. He was arrested on October 15, 1936 and executed on November 28, along with twelve other Oblates.

The beatification of the 22 Spanish martyrs of the Oblates, including Francisco Esteban Lacal, took place on December 17, 2011 in the Cathedral of Madrid .
