Vicente Blanco Guadilla

Vicente Blanco Guadilla OMI (born April 5, 1882 in Frómista , † November 28, 1936 in Paracuellos de Jarama ) was a Spanish Oblate of the Immaculate Virgin Mary .

Life

On August 14, 1900, he began his novitiate in Notre-Dame-de-l'Osier in France . After taking his first vows a year later, he was sent to Rome to study theology. He was ordained a priest there on April 14, 1906 . For a few years he worked as a professor and novice master in the Spanish order province before he was appointed superior of the study house in Pozuelo in 1932 . After the monastery in Pozuelo was occupied by armed militias on July 22, 1936 during the Spanish Civil War , he belonged to the group of Oblates who were released on July 25. He was arrested again on October 15, 1936, and executed on November 28, along with twelve of his confreres.

The beatification of the 22 Spanish martyrs of the Oblates, including Vicente Blanco Gudailla, took place on December 17, 2011 in the Cathedral of Madrid .
