society

Rodríguez, who for the sake of simplicity is only called “Maza” (after his place of birth), was under contract with Chivas Guadalajara for six years from 2002 to 2008 . In the Clausura 2004, the Mexican championship in the first half of the year, he and his team were runner-up. Two and a half years later he won the Apertura championship with Guadalajara in 2006. After a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Jalisco , the chances for the final second leg at the Estadio Nemesio Díez at Deportivo Toluca were n't particularly good, especially since Toluca took an early 1-0 lead was. In this game Maza managed the important equalizer with which he initiated the turnaround for his team's 2-1 victory.

Before the start of the 2008-09 season, Maza signed a three-year contract with PSV Eindhoven .

On July 14, 2011, Maza moved to VfB Stuttgart , where he signed a contract until 2014. After 40 games and two goals in the Bundesliga, he left the club in January 2013 for Club America .

On July 1, 2014, he moved to Cruz Azul.

National team

"Maza" made his first international appearance in a friendly match between Mexico and Chile that was held in the USA and ended 1: 1. He scored his only international goal on July 8, 2005 in a game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2005 against the South African team, which the Mexicans lost 2-1.

Maza was also part of the Mexican squad for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups .

During the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 , Maza and four other members of the Mexican national soccer team tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol and their team removed them from the tournament. Ultimately, however, all players affected were exonerated by FIFA on the grounds that the findings were due to contaminated meat that was not intentionally consumed and served during a preparatory training camp. The World Anti-Doping Agency decided not to take action against the Mexican players anymore because, after viewing the documents, they no longer assumed an offense.
