Francisco "Paco" Llorente Gento (born May 21, 1965 in Valladolid ) is a former Spanish football player .
Career
In the club
Paco Llorente played for Real Madrid , his famous uncle's long-time club, when he was young . However, he began his career in 1985 in the reserve selection of city rivals Atlético Madrid in the Segunda División . Although he with Atlético Madrileño relegation at season's end, he had recommended its services to a place in the first team, he that in the penultimate round of the 1985/86 season his debut in La Liga was followed at the Copa de la Liga in 1986 took part . In the 1986/87 season he celebrated his breakthrough with 26 first division appearances.
For the 1987/88 season Llorente returned to Real Madrid. In the Spanish record champions, however, he was often only used as a substitute for teammates like Míchel , Hugo Sánchez and Emilio Butragueño . After he had played 70 league games in this way between 1987 and 1990 and won the Spanish championship three times, he was hardly considered under the new coach John Toshack in the 1989/90 season. This negative trend also continued under Toshack's successors Alfredo Di Stéfano , Radomir Antić , Leo Beenhakker and Benito Floro . Between 1990 and 1994 Llorente played only 36 league games.
For the 1994/95 season Llorente therefore left the capital and moved to the first division promoted SD Compostela . Llorente also played primarily as a substitute at his new club. After he had been able to secure relegation with the club three times in a row, he was relegated to the Segunda División in the 1997/98 season : In the relegation games against Villarreal FC they lost due to the away goals rule . Llorente then ended his career at the age of 32.
In the national team
Llorente played five international matches for the Spanish U-21 selection and won the U-21 European Championship with this in 1986 . On November 18, 1987, he made his debut in the European Championship qualifier against Albania in the national team of Spain and scored one goal. It was his only appearance in the national jersey.

Private
Paco Llorente is the nephew of Francisco Gento , who won the European Cup six times with Real Madrid . He is married to María Angela, the eldest daughter of the former Real Madrid player Ramón Grosso . Their son, Marcos Llorente , also played for Real Madrid.
