François Schubert
François Schubert (born July 22, 1808 in Dresden ; † April 12, 1878 there ; actually Franz Anton Schubert (the younger) ) was concertmaster and composer in Dresden.
Life
As the son of the church composer Franz Anton Schubert , François completed an apprenticeship with the concertmaster Antonio Rolla in Dresden and studied violin with Charles Philippe Lafont in Paris. As a composer he wrote concert pieces, studies and chamber music. His Bagatelle L'Abeille was played frequently. In Dresden he worked from 1838 as vice-concertmaster and from 1847 to 1873 as concertmaster of the royal court orchestra.
François Schubert changed his first name to avoid confusion. He was married to the singer and actress Maschinka Schneider (1815–1882), the daughter of Georg Abraham Schneider . Both daughter's was the chamber singer Georgine Schubert (1840–1878).
He died on April 12, 1878 in Dresden.
