Maschinka Schneider
Maschinka Schneider , actually Maschinka Schubert , b. Schneider (born August 25, 1815 in Reval , Russian Empire , † September 19, 1882 in Dresden , German Empire ) was a German opera singer ( soprano / mezzo-soprano ).
Life
Maschinka Schneider was the daughter of the Prussian conductor Georg Abraham Schneider . She received her first artistic lessons from her father and thanks to his support, she was able to perform alongside Anna Milder in Gluck's opera “ Alceste ” as a child .
At the age of 16, Schneider went to Paris in 1831 and took singing lessons from the opera singer Marco Bordogni . With his help, she even got a brief engagement at the Paris Opera . From there she was brought to London to the Royal Opera House , where her performances were also enthusiastically celebrated. From this time on, at the latest, Schneider was artistically equal to colleagues such as Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient , Anton Haizinger and others.
Back in Germany, Schneider got a contract at the royal court theater in Berlin . In 1833 she went to Dresden and appeared there for the first time on April 10, 1833 at the Saxon court theater . She convinced as "Zerlina" and remained a member of this ensemble until her retirement. On July 12, 1837 Schneider married the concertmaster François Schubert in Dresden and had a daughter with him; the future actress Georgine Schubert .
Although Schneider was of marital origin, her appointment as court actress or chamber singer was rejected several times because her father also had children with other women.
On September 1, 1860, she officially said goodbye to the stage and withdrew into private life. 25 days after her 67th birthday, Maschinka Schneider died on September 19, 1882 in Dresden, where she also found her final resting place.
