Frank Dünger (born October 27, 1961 in Neumark ; † October 7, 2006 ) was a German football player. He played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association 157 and in the 2nd Bundesliga ten games.

Soccer career

Sachsenring Zwickau

Frank Dünger began his football career at TSG Blau-Weiß Reichenbach. In 1975 he was accepted into the school team of the BSG Sachsenring Zwickau . Then he went through all the youth teams up to the juniors. In 1979 he was part of the squad of the GDR junior national team , for which he played a U-18 international match on November 16, 1979. In the encounter between the GDR and Romania (1: 1) he was used as a Libero .

In the seasons 1979/80 to 1981/82 fertilizer was officially part of the junior league team of BSG Sachsenring. In the 1981/82 season , however, he played his first 14 games in the GDR league. He benefited from the failures of the regular players Gerd Schellenberg and Joachim Schykowski . Fertilizer made his debut in the league on October 14, 1981 in the game Hallescher FC - Sachsenring (1-0), in which he was called up as a Libero. This position was then his standard position for almost the entire playing career. As early as 1982/83, Dünger was part of the top line-up of the Sachsenring top division team with 23 stakes. On October 16, 1982 he scored in the game 1. FC Union Berlin - Sachsenring (1: 1) with the equalizer for his team, his first of later three GDR upper leagues. His second league season ended disappointingly, because Sachsenring Zwickau had to relegate from the league. Up to this point in time, fertilizer had played 37 league games.

Stahl Riesa

In order to be able to continue playing in the league, fertilizer switched to the newly promoted BSG Stahl Riesa for the 1983/84 season . However, his time in Riesa was marked by numerous failures, in the first two seasons he only made 25 league appearances. From November 1985 to May 1987 he had to do his military service. It was not until the 1987/88 season that he established himself in Riesa with 25 top division point games as a regular Libero. At the end of the season, however, after a total of 50 more first division games, he suffered the second descent of his senior division career.

FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt

Then fertilizer joined the upper division FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt at the beginning of the 1988/89 season . There he immediately belonged to the permanent staff and until the end of the GDR Oberliga in 1991, he played 70 of the 78 Oberliga point games held in his usual position as a Libero. The 1990/91 season served not only to determine the last GDR soccer champion but also to qualify for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. The FC Rot-Weiß reached third place and thus the eligibility for the 2nd Bundesliga. With the second division season 1991/92 fertilizer steered towards the end of his high-performance sports career. He only played ten point games for Erfurt at irregular intervals, but he only played three of them over the full playing time. In his last second division game for FC Rot-Weiß on November 30, 1991 (FC Rot-Weiß - FC Carl Zeiss Jena) he was sent off in the 39th minute. Erfurt could not assert itself in the 2nd Bundesliga and had to compete in the amateur league from 1992/93 . Fertilizer was still active there for FC Rot-Weiß until 1994.

End of career

For the 1994/95 season, Dünger, now 32 years old, moved to the amateur league promoted VFC Plauen . After he had helped the team to rise to the regional league in 1996 , fertilizer joined the national division VfB Auerbach and finally ended his career as a football player at FC Thuringia Weida in the Thuringia League . He later worked as a coach for the district division club 1. FC Wacker Plauen.

Further career

On October 7, 2006, Frank Dünger died of severe cancer.
