Frank Doyle (born September 8, 1980 in Guelph , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was last under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League .
Career
First, Frank Doyle played for two years for the University of Maine in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 2002 to 2004 , before he was first used in professional ice hockey in the 2004/05 season. For the Idaho Steelheads , the then farm team of the Utah Grizzlies from the American Hockey League , the left catcher was used in 52 games in the ECHL . Towards the end of the season Doyle was called up by the Grizzlies in the AHL squad and made his debut in the AHL. This he lost with his team, however, 1: 5 at the Manchester Monarchs .
Without ever being selected in an NHL Entry Draft , the goalkeeper signed a contract as a free agent with the New Jersey Devils on August 15, 2005 . In the 2005/06 season , however, Doyle played exclusively for their AHL farm team, the Albany River Rats , and in the following two years for the new AHL farm team from New Jersey, the Lowell Devils . On September 1, 2008, the Canadian signed a contract initially limited to three months with the then German runner-up Kölner Haie , which signed him as a replacement for Robert Müller , who was seriously ill . Frank Doyle made his DEL debut on September 7th, 2008 during Cologne's 2-0 defeat at the DEG Metro Stars . On November 12, 2008, the Haie announced that Doyle's contract had been extended until the end of the season. Then he did not receive a new contract.
He played for the Charlotte Checkers in November and December 2009 before being signed by the Alaska Aces in January 2010 . Between February and May 2010 he was part of the Worcester Sharks , the farm team of the NHL club San Jose Sharks . In June 2010 he signed a contract with the Italian first division club SHC Fassa .
He stayed there for three seasons, then Doyle ended his active career with the Sheffield Steelers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League from 2013 to 2015 .
