Frank Georg Zebner

Frank Georg Zebner (* 1962 ) is a German designer . Since 2008 he has been a professor at the Offenbach am Main University of Design and represents the technical products and product systems department.

Live and act

Zebner studied design in Munich , Schwäbisch Gmünd and Offenbach am Main . He worked as a designer in Munich, London and San Francisco , among others for frog design , Moggridge Associates and ID TWO (now IDEO ). Influenced by the close collaboration with Bill Moggridge , Zebner concentrated increasingly on the field of interaction design in the following decade. In the mid-1990s, as Head of Interface and Transportation Design at Siemens Global Design Headquarters, he was involved in infrastructure, mobility and design projects for public transport.

In 1997 he was appointed professor for product and communication design at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design . In 2008 he was offered a position at the Offenbach am Main University of Design for the subject of technical products and product systems. He initially worked as vice dean and from 2010 to 2016 he was dean of the design department. In November 2019, Zebner was re-elected as Dean of the Faculty for a three-year term.

Zebner teaches as a visiting professor at numerous colleges and universities in Europe, Asia and Australia. He was an honorary professor at the National Taipei University of Technology in Taiwan and in 2016 was a supervisor professor at the China Central Academy of Arts CAFA in Beijing in the field of Transportation and Mobility Design . In 2017 he was appointed visiting professor at the School of Fine Arts at Guangzhou University and at the BIT Beijing Institute of Technology . As a jury member, he accompanied the design awards for the German Design Award , Red Dot Design Award and IF Design Award .

Zebner is the founder of the Design Institute of Technology , a project platform of the department he represents at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, which, among other things, carries out design research and development for medium-sized and large companies such as Audi, Lamy and Lufthansa.
