F. Starik , also Frank Starik , (born Frank von der Möhlen on July 1, 1958 in Apeldoorn ; died on March 16, 2018 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch poet and artist.

Life

Frank von der Möhlen alias F. Starik studied photography and mixed media at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten . He self-published his first poems. After working as a photographer and as a singer in the Willem Kloos Groep , Starik wrote more and more poetry and founded the "Lonely Burial" in Amsterdam - an initiative of poets who write poems for the dead for lonely dead people and recite them at their burial. This idea, originally from Groningen , was taken up in other Dutch and Flemish cities. The project is documented in an anthology edited by Starik, which was also published in German in 2016 and contains prose and poetry by other authors as well as poems by F. Starik.

In 2009 F. Starik received the Amsterdam Prize for Art together with two other laureates . His popularity grew when he was nominated for "Amsterdammer van het jaar" for 2009 by the newspaper Het Parool . On May 19, 2010, he was named the fourth " urban poet of Amsterdam" to succeed Mustafa Stitou .

For the 7th Dortmund Poetry Day at the LesArt.Festival 2010, Gregor Seferens translated eight poems (including three sonnets ) by Starik, which have been published by Wintertuin in Nijmegen .

F. Starik died of heart failure on March 16, 2018 .

“Ever since Eenzame Uitvaart started in Amsterdam - and later also in The Hague and Rotterdam - Starik has been a coordinator with a great deal of responsibility. He organized the poets for the solitary burials, wrote poetry himself, selected suitable pieces of music and attended almost every solitary burial. He wrote a report for the website of each solitary funeral.

In his own distinctive way, F. Starik was the face of the Eenzame Uitvaart , at home and abroad. We are very grateful to him for that. We will miss him. "
