The Frankfurter Kanu-Verein 1913 e. V. (FKV) is a canoe club based in Frankfurt am Main . The club is a member of the German Canoe Association and the State Sports Association of Hesse .

history

The FKV, together with the Oberalster VfW, was one of the first clubs in Germany to be founded exclusively for canoeing . On March 15, 1914, he was a founding member of the German Canoe Association in Hamburg.

In Reinhard Jirgl's novel Die Stille , the Frankfurter Kanu-Verein (on pages 232 and 327) is introduced into German literature.

Successful members

  • Helmut Herz became world champion in single kayaks in the 4 × 500 m relay at the canoe racing world championships in Prague in 1958 , together with Fritz Briel , Paul Lange and Meinrad Miltenberger .
  • Peter Lust won silver and bronze at the Wild Water World Championships in 1967 in Špindlerův Mlýn (Czechoslovakia).
  • Ansgar Heß won gold as the helmsman of the Electoral Palatinate Dragons at the 1998 IDBF Dragon Boat Club World Championships in Wellington (New Zealand).
  • Silke Wolf won gold, silver and bronze with the RG Hessen at the 2007 ICF Dragon Boat Club World Championships in Gérardmer (France). She won silver at the 2007 IDBF Dragon Boat World Championships in Sydney, Australia.
  • Daniela Hofmann won bronze three times at the 2019 IDBF Dragon Boat World Championships in Pattaya (Thailand).
  • Josef Capoušek is an honorary member of the FKV and internationally successful as a trainer in canoe racing.

Divisions

The FKV is active in both competitive and recreational sports . The club takes part in competitions in the disciplines of canoe racing , canoe dragon boats (with the teams "FKV Dragonauten" and "Dragonfighters Frankfurt") and outrigger / Vaa . The Outrigger / Vaa division also organizes the Metropolitan Mediterranean Cup (MMC) in Frankfurt.

In the FKV there is an active canoeing youth who do their training once a week on the Main (during the summer months) or with short boats in the swimming pool (during the winter months). Technical training on various slalom courses prepare the youngsters for stronger flowing waters.

In recreational sports , the focus is on canoeing ( kayaking , canoeing ) and coast / sea kayaking . In addition, the canoeists are active in white water . There is great interest in Stand Up Paddling (SUP), and owners of sports boats have also joined the club.
