Franklyn Green Jenifer (born March 26, 1939 in Washington, DC ) is an American biologist , university professor , rector of universities and business manager .

biography

After attending Joel Elias Spingarn High School in Washington, DC, Jenifer began studying biology at Howard University in 1957, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Biology). He then worked from 1963 to 1970 as a phytopathologist in the United States Department of Agriculture . He also completed postgraduate studies in microbiology at Howard University, where he received a Master of Science degree (MS Microbiology) in 1965 . In 1970 he finally earned a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D. Microbiology) at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

Jenifer was then appointed professor of biology at Rutgers University in New Jersey , where he taught between 1970 and 1979. From 1979 to 1986 he was Vice Chancellor of the Commission for Higher Education of the State of New Jersey. He was also a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science .

1986 he transferred to the University Administration and is first Chancellor ( Chancellor ) of the governing body ( Board of Regents ) in Massachusetts . After serving as president of Howard University between 1990 and 1994, he eventually became president of the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), where he worked until 2005. He was then formally appointed President Emeritus .

In addition to his work as university president , he works as a manager in the private sector and was initially a board member of Texaco between 1993 and 2000 . He was then a board member of Chevron Texaco and has been a member of the board of directors of Chevron Corporation since 2005.
