France private - The sexual secrets of a family is a queen , comedic colored drama by Jean-Marc Barr and Pascal Arnold from 2012. The original title Chroniques sexual d'une famille d'aujourd'hui means about "sexual report of a present family".
action
18-year-old Romain is caught masturbating during class while filming himself on his cell phone - other classmates did the same as part of a game without getting caught doing it. Accordingly, he is threatened with expulsion from school. Appointed to him by the school principal, his mother takes it calmly. Since there is hardly any talk about sexuality in the family , she and the father decide from now on to talk to the children about it.
When the mother asks the grandfather what his sex life has been like since the death of his wife, he tells with relief about his visits to a prostitute . This solution allows him to remain true to the heart of the deceased. Parents and their children deal with the issue of sexuality in an open, understanding and humorous way. Romain is all the more depressed to be still a virgin the longer this state lasts, but hardly dares to approach his classmate Coralie. In a trusting conversation, his father consoles him that he will have his first sexual experience. Romain's adoptive sister Marie has a full sex life with her boyfriend Cédric, while Romain's older brother Pierre lives out his bisexual tendencies with alternating couples . However, he is not ready to reveal his sexual circumstances to his interested mother. The mother tells the father that she has lovers and that she mounts them like objects of pleasure. Coralie is present at the grandfather's birthday. Romain withdraws with her to his room and is deflowered by her.
A year later, the grandfather dies in the act with the prostitute. Apart from her and her family, however, no acquaintances appear at the funeral. Cédric lets Marie in on his masturbation fantasies, while Romain and Coralie meanwhile film each other having sex and post the videos on the Internet .
At the end of the film, everyone can be photographed together for a family photo on All Saints' Day .

The fictional study portrays the sexual joys and sometimes hardships of members of a middle-class family. The creators declared that they wanted to counter the hyper masculine and misogynistic images of the porn industry with the normality of sexuality, because the porn representations are the determining point of reference in the sexual education of children. “We wanted to convey a feeling, this sensory thing between two people that can become spiritual.” They shot on video within three weeks and with “real actors”. The DVD version contains recordings of non-simulated sexual intercourse and genitals, while the cinema and television version dispenses with these scenes and is legal for ages 12 and up in France. The film was shown on the German market at the Pornfilmfestival Berlin 2013, released on DVD by the Pierrot le Fou publishing house and broadcast on 3sat on January 7, 2014 .
criticism
L'Express judged that the praiseworthy project succeeded thanks to its intellectual depth and the aesthetic care in the image design. Le Monde saw the film as educational material. There is a family, "a dad, a mom who love each other very much" etc., whereby the humor comes across as a bit forced. The makers would be “explicit, but chaste”, and everyone would be “touched or annoyed” about the result. As usual with the Barr / Arnold duo, the film has a technical and intellectual weakness, but also an overflowing sincerity, it was said in the Cahiers du cinéma . Contrary to the good intentions, the result is an uninterrupted sequence of pornographic scenes without any sociological value, which transforms the actors into permanently erected rabbits and the world into a huge brothel.
The taz called the film a "rather cozy product and in its nullity doomed to failure."
