František Šimůnek (born December 2, 1910 in Zlatá Olešnice ; † unknown) was a Czechoslovakian skier who was active in the Nordic ski disciplines cross-country skiing , ski jumping and Nordic combined .

Career

Šimůnek started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberhof in 1931 , but clearly missed the top 60 in ski jumping with jumps to 54 and 50.5 meters. A year later at the Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid in 1932 , he reached rank 23 in individual jumping. In the following individual competition in Nordic combined, he landed eighth after good performance in cross-country skiing and jumping.

In Innsbruck he succeeded at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1933 together with Cyril Musil , Vladimír Novák and Antonín Bartoň winning the silver medal with the 4x10 km cross-country skiing relay. In ski jumping he was not part of the team. In the cross-country skiing individual over 18 km, he landed on 10th place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1935 in Vysoké Tatry , Šimůnek finished 31st in ski jumping singles. Another year later, he was again part of the Czechoslovak squad at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . For the first time he started in all three Nordic disciplines. In cross-country skiing over 18 km, he just missed the top 10 in eleventh place. After finishing fifth in the individual combination, he reached this place with the cross-country relay together with Cyril Musil, Gustl Berauer and Lukáš Mihalák .

A year later he started with Musil, Berauer and as a new team member for the first time Rudolf Vrána at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Chamonix in 1937 . Once again it was only fifth behind Norway, Finland, Italy and Sweden.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1938 , Šimůnek again clearly missed the top 50 in ski jumping. After a forced break due to the Second World War , he started again internationally at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . At the age of 37, however, he had to bow to the strong field of participants as 72nd in cross-country skiing and 36th in Nordic combined and ended his active career after the games.
