Franz-Reinhold Hildebrandt

Franz-Reinhold Hildebrandt (born January 12, 1906 in Braunsberg , † December 18, 1991 in Brühl near Cologne ) was a German Protestant pastor and theologian.

Life

Hildebrandt, a son of pastor Wilhelm Hildebrandt, attended grammar school in his hometown and then studied Protestant theology at the universities of Königsberg , Tübingen and Berlin . After his ordination in 1932, he was assistant preacher in Saberau . In 1933 he took over a pastor's position in Goldap (East Prussia). Already involved in the Young Reformation movement from the beginning , Hildebrandt was involved in the development of the Confessing Church and has been a member of the Brotherhood of the East Prussian Confessing Synod since 1934 , as chairman since 1936. He was also a member of the Brotherhood Council of the Church of the Old Prussian Union until he was called up for military service.

After the Second World War, Hildebrandt was involved in the reconstruction of the Evangelical Church in Germany . a. as a participant in the meeting of the brotherhoods in Frankfurt in August 1945 and in the church conference in Treysa in 1947. In 1946 he became provost in Halberstadt and Quedlinburg and held the pastor's office at the collegiate church of St. Servatii in Quedlinburg. From October 1, 1952 until his retirement on August 31, 1972, he was President of the Church Chancellery of the Evangelical Church of the Union . In addition, from 1961 he was director of the Protestant Research Academy and preacher at the Berlin Cathedral . In 1978 he moved from East Berlin to Cologne.
