Franz Arnold (baptized name: Franz Arnold Friedrich Bernhard Johann) von der Recke zu Steinfurt (born January 29, 1713 in Münster ; † November 10, 1762 there ) was Landdrost in the Prince Diocese of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Franz Arnold grew up as the son of Johann Matthias von der Recke zu Steinfurt and Anna Adolfina von Wolff-Metternich zu Gracht in the ancient Westphalian noble family von der Recke . His sister Anna Maria Theresia was abbess at Nottuln Abbey . From his father's first marriage to Anna Maria von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen came the sons Johann Friedrich Christian (canon and privy councilor) and Ferdinand Wilhelm (chamberlain and official coroner). On January 28, 1747 he married Anna Elisabeth von der Recke zu Heessen. This brought the Heessen inheritance with her into the marriage. In addition to his paternal inheritance, he thus had a considerable fortune. Since the marriage remained childless, the Steinfurt family branch died out.

Career and work

As early as 1720 Franz Arnold received a cathedral praise in Trier . After the abandonment of his brother Franz Kaspar Ferdinand von Landsberg to Erwitte he received a Dompräbende in Munster . The appointment to the real court and government council fell on August 16, 1735. In February 1742 he became a real secret council and on November 5, 1742 a real council of war . He also took on the mandate of the Landtag commissioner . In 1746 he took over the family property and renounced the prebends in favor of Johann Matthias von Landsberg zu Erwitte , the son of his brother-in-law. On September 4th, 1747 Franz Arnold was appointed Drosten von Dülmen. He took the prescribed oath of service on September 19th. He was replaced by his brother Ferdinand Wilhelm Joseph, who was later disinherited because of extravagance. After the death of his father, Ferdinand Wilhelm appealed against this decision. With the ruling of the Reich Chamber of Commerce Ferdinand Wilhelm received 2/3 of the Steinfurt goods, while Franz received 1/3.
