Johann Matthias von der Recke zu Steinfurt (* March 6, 1672 ; † November 3, 1739 in Drensteinfurt ) was Landdrost in the Prince Diocese of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Born as the son of Johann Dietrich von der Recke zu Steinfurt (1644–1688, Amtsdroste in Werne) and Anna Sophia Elisabeth von Ascheberg zu Venne (1646–1680), Johann Matthias von der Recke zu Steinfurt came from the ancient Westphalian noble family von der Recke . The sons Josef, Johann Friedrich Christian and Ferdinand Wilhelm came from the marriage with Anna Maria Plettenberg zu Lehnhausen (daughter of Johann Adolph von Plettenberg and Franziska Theresia von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht ) . After Anna's death, he married Anna Adolfina von Wolff-Metternich zu Gracht on February 10, 1709 . They had the children Anna Maria Theresia , Franz Arnold , and Anna Maria Theresia (abbess) .

Career and work

On November 19, 1696 the revival to the knighthood of Münster took place. In order to demote the Werne office, he was appointed on January 29, 1700, after he had previously been accepted for this office in 1689. Until he came of age (1693) he was under the administration of his uncle Hermann . The appointment to the Real Secret Council fell on July 20, 1707 and on August 7, 1717 he was elevated to the status of imperial baron. On June 18, 1719 he became a real council of war . Johann Matthias was also chief stableman.

Inheritance disputes

In 1737 Johann Matthias disinherited his son Ferdinand Wilhelm, who had married against his will and led a lavish lifestyle, and put him on his compulsory portion. His half-brother Franz Arnold became heir. When Johann Matthias died in 1739, Ferdinand Wilhelm had the disinheritance examined by a court with the result that the Imperial Court of Justice awarded him 2/3 of the Steinfurt property and Franz Arnold 1/3 of the property.
