Johann Matthias von Landsberg zu Erwitte (born May 23, 1734 in Arnsberg ; † September 15, 1813 in Münster ) from the noble family of the Lords of Landsberg was canon in various monasteries and also held office in the monastery of Münster until the land was taken over by Prussia of the Court Chamber President and President of the Privy Council .

Life

Johann Matthias grew up as the son of Franz Kaspar Ferdinand von Landsberg zu Erwitte and his wife Anna Maria Theresia von der Recke together with his siblings Anna Adolphina (* 1751, ∞ Hermann von Spiegel zum Desenberg ), Clemens August (1733–1785, civil servant in the duchy Westphalia) and Franz Karl (1735–1779, Canon) in the Westphalian noble family von Landsberg . As a later-born son, he entered the clergy. In 1746 he received the first tonsure . In the same year he received a cathedral praise in Münster. He spent his biennium at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . From 1750 he continued his studies in Paderborn . In 1753 he also received a cathedral praise in Paderborn. The emancipation for both canons took place after graduating in 1755.

From 1764 he was archdeacon in Winterswijk . He held this office until 1775. In 1765 he received another cathedral priest in Osnabrück through papal commission . From 1775 he was archdeacon in Warendorf . In 1777 he was sworn up to the knighthood of Münster. Landsberg zu Erwitte was from 1780 cathedral sexton in Paderborn and from 1783 cathedral scholaster in Münster. Between 1787 and 1803 he was also president of the court chamber there. In 1789 he was named Canonicus a latere in Paderborn by Prince-Bishop Franz Egon von Fürstenberg . In Münster he was from 1789 Privy Council and from 1800 President of the Privy Council as a representative of the Provost and Council President von Wrede. He received an annual salary of 1145 Reichstalers. After the Prince Diocese of Münster had passed into Prussian ownership, his office activities ended.
