Franz Beer from Au

Franz Beer von Au (born July 3, 1659 in Au ; † May 17, 1722 ibid) was a builder of the Bregenzerwald Auer Guild .

Life

Franz was the fourth son of Michael Beer II . His godmother was Maria Metzler, the wife of the guild founder of the Au guild Michael Beer . From 1678 to 1681 he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and stonemason with master Wolfgang Natter. In 1682 Beer was already employing two apprentices . On January 14, 1690 he married in Au Maria Stülz. As a master builder, he has been archived since 1690 through a contract with signature and seal with the church of the Benedictine monastery in Gengenbach . Franz Beer was the father of three sons, including Johann Michael Beer von Bildstein and Joseph Gottfried Beer (* 1704 in Au; † 1791 ibid).

Signature and seal

Franz Beer can be distinguished from Au from Franz Beer from Bleichten on the basis of two characteristics . Its seal is octagonal in shape. In the middle, a bear running to the right holds a compass in its right paw and a chisel in the other . Above it are the initials FB and the number 8. The number stands for the eighth master builder of the Au guild. He signed his contracts with tz . For example in Gengenbach: I confess frantz beer as it is. Franz Beer von Bleichten, on the other hand, had a different seal and always wrote his first name without a tz .
