Franz Dominik von Weber (also Dominikus von Weber ; born October 25, 1717 in Arth ; † January 7, 1793 in Capodimonte ) was a Swiss officer and military entrepreneur .

Life

Weber was the son of the Schwyz councilor Beat Jakob von Weber and came from the old Schwyz country people family Weber . In 1734 he received the officer's license as first lieutenant , then attended the upper secondary school of the Jesuit college in Lucerne from 1734 to 1737 . From high school he returned to military service. From 1737 he was in the service of the Régiment de Tschudy (51e régiment d'infanterie etrangère) and rose to brigadier in 1787. As part of this regiment, he fought in the War of the Austrian Succession in Italy. In 1740 he was promoted to captain . In 1751 he bought a half company from his relative Alois Werner von Weber , who retired from military service to Switzerland, and accordingly became a military entrepreneur.

Weber rose to major in 1756 , lieutenant colonel in 1766, and real lieutenant colonel in 1773. In 1776 he was promoted to colonel before being promoted to brigadier in 1784 or 1787 . In 1780 he had also taken over the Reding Guard Company in the Régiment de Tschudy.

The politician Franz Xaver von Weber was his son, the archaeologist and military man Karl Jakob von Weber was his brother and the politician, doctor and chronicler of the Goldau landslide Karl Zay was his son-in-law. The politician Karl von Zay was his grandson.
