Franz Edlauer

Franz Edlauer (born September 5, 1798 in Laibach ; † August 22, 1866 in Weidling near Klosterneuburg ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician.

Life

Franz Edlauer was born on September 5, 1798 in Laibach . He studied law and political science from 1821 to 1826 at the University of Vienna , where he also received his doctorate in 1826. jur. PhD. He then became a supplement to Roman and canon law at the University of Vienna . He died on August 22, 1866 in Weidling near Klosterneuburg .

Scientific and political career

His academic career as a lawyer began in 1829, when he was appointed to the chair for private, constitutional and criminal law at the law faculty of the University of Graz . This chair was finally transferred to him in 1831 as the successor to Professor Jenuull, who had been appointed to Vienna. Since he was also very interested in politics, he took the revolution that broke out in 1848 as an opportunity to run for the Frankfurt National Assembly. He was also elected for the constituency of Styria / Lietzen and took his seat in Frankfurt am Main on May 18, 1848. Like many of the Austrian members of the Frankfurt National Assembly , he did not join any of the numerous parliamentary groups. On April 23, 1849 he resigned his mandate and returned to his chair in Graz. In 1850 he was appointed to the chair for legal philosophy in Vienna. But since he had already been warned in 1848 because of the content of his lectures on legal philosophy, the government (Count von Thun) refused to confirm his election as dean of the law faculty in 1854.

Franz Edlauer was a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
