José Hernán Sánchez Porras

José Hernán Sánchez Porras (born March 31, 1944 in Palmira , † October 13, 2014 in Caracas , Venezuela) was a Venezuelan clergyman and military bishop of Venezuela .

Life

José Hernán Sánchez Porras studied philosophy and theology at the Seminary of St. Thomas Aquinas in San Cristóbal and received on June 25 in 1967 by the bishop of San Cristobal de Venezuela , Alejandro Fernández Feo-Tinoco , in Palmira, the ordination . In 1972 he became a military chaplain and served as a lieutenant in the army. In 1994 he was appointed colonel. On December 28, 1981, he was appointed chaplain to His Holiness by Pope John Paul II .

Sánchez Porras was rector of the Thomas Aquinas Seminary from 1988 to 1990 and taught mathematics (1968–1991), social and civil morality (1968–1970), liturgy (1969–1970), religious studies (1972–1980; 1990–1994). , Media and communication studies (1976–1988), Latin (1982–1988) and language didactics (1982–1988).

From July 1996 to January 2001 he was General Secretary of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference (CEV).

Pope John Paul II appointed him military bishop of Venezuela on December 19, 2000 . The Archbishop of Barquisimeto , Tulio Manuel Chirivella Varela , donated him episcopal ordination on February 16 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Baltazar Enrique Porras Cardozo , Archbishop of Mérida , and Mario del Valle Moronta Rodríguez , Bishop of San Cristóbal de Venezuela.

José Hernán Sánchez Porras was a cousin of Baltazar Porras , Archbishop of Merida.
