Franz Karl August Höhne (born December 5, 1892 in Bromberg ; † March 23, 1980 in Bremen ) was a German painter and art teacher.

Life

Franz Höhne was born in 1892 as the son of a teacher in Bromberg in what was then the Prussian province of Posen, where he grew up. After graduating from high school in Schneidemühl in 1913, he began an artistic training at the Breslau Academy , which was interrupted by his participation in the First World War from 1914 to 1916.

After continuing his artistic studies and studying philosophy at the University of Wroclaw , he completed this phase in 1918 with the drawing teacher examination. After attending the art academy in Weimar, Höhne initially lived as a freelance artist in Weimar, Dresden and Berlin, interrupted from 1919 to 1921 by a time as a trainee lawyer in Beuthen OS In Berlin, Höhne worked as a part-time teacher and went to the art academy Exam as handicraft teacher. In 1928 he moved to Barth, where he worked as a teacher at the grammar school until 1959. In addition, his artistic work remained a major concern for him.

His early works were strongly influenced by Expressionism , which he weakened during the Nazi era and the GDR. He mainly painted the coastal landscapes and their people. He created oil paintings, ink drawings, linocuts. Much of his work was lost in 1945.

Franz Höhne moved to his daughter in Bremen in 1969, where he died in 1980.

The Stralsund Cultural History Museum is in possession of numerous works by Höhne, 32 of which were donated by his daughter in 1991.
