Franz Haider (sculptor)
Franz Haider (born January 19, 1860 in Schwaz , † October 25, 1947 in Petersberg, municipality of Deutschnofen ) was an Austrian sculptor and art teacher.
biography
He attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts with Hermann Klotz , then worked as an art teacher at the art school in Ortisei in Val Gardena and at the woodworking school in Bozen for 40 years. At his age he retired as a freelance artist in Petersberg and died there in his Waldhaus Schönwies.
One of his students in Val Gardena was the sculptor Ludwig Moroder . “Due to his influence, wood carving in Val Gardena experienced a significant artistic boom”.
