Johann Heinrich Jakob Roth (also called Franz Heinrich ) (born March 31, 1729 in Mergentheim ; † October 19, 1780 in Bonn ) was a German builder of the 18th century.

Life

He was the son of the court architect Franz Joseph Roth from the Electorate of Cologne . He mainly worked on buildings of the German Order, for example at the Teutonic Order Castle Mergentheim . He also learned the basics of architecture from his father. Elector Clemens August of Bavaria promoted him. This made it possible to continue the training in Paris. In 1754 he became a builder and in 1759 he was electoral court chamber councilor .

Even before he was a proper builder, he accompanied the Elector and Grand Master to Mergentheim in 1750. There he built a makeshift wooden comedy and opera house in the courtyard. In 1754 he created the stucco work in the Salle de gardes in Brühl Castle . He also designed the Herzogsfreude Castle in Kottenforst near Bonn. One of the main works is the late baroque Jesuit church in Büren . Around 1775 he worked as a consultant in the expansion of the residential palace in Münster . At around the same time he converted Lüftelberg Castle in Meckenheim into a palace. Then he created the Bonn Castle Church in 1779 .
