Franz Kraus (skier)
Franz Kraus (born January 21, 1913 , † February 6, 1942 ) was a Czechoslovak and German alpine ski racer and Nordic winter sportsman.
Career
As a German Bohemian, Kraus was a member of the main association of German winter sports clubs in the Czechoslovak Republic , or HDW for short , which was an official member of the international ski association before the Second World War and started for the Harrachsdorf - Neuwelt winter sports club .
At the World Championships in 1933 in Innsbruck , he reached in the Alpine competitions Rank 39 in the downhill , 46th in slalom and rank 42 in the Alpine combined . In the Nordic disciplines he took 12th place in ski jumping from Bergiselschanze and, together with his association colleagues Franz Lauer , Alois Horn and Franz Semptner, reached 6th place in the relay race over 4 × 10 km.
At the home world championship in 1935 in Altschmecks in the High Tatras , he reached 57th place in cross-country skiing over 18 km and with the relay over 4 × 10 km together with Gustav and Otto Berauer and Josef Ackermann again 6th place for the HDW.
At the 1941 World Ski Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo , which were declared unofficial in 1946 , he was a member of the German squad in cross-country skiing over 18 km and reached a position around 30th; He did not start in the Nordic Combined ski jumping and therefore could not finish it.
On February 16, 1941 Kraus reached a distance of 79 m while jumping on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
Kraus fell on the Eastern Front in World War II .
